  • BIRTH: ABT 1780, NC or SC?

Father: Robert HODGES
Mother: Mary LIDE

Notes

From: "Jeanette K. Howell" [email protected] (new Address)
Subject: Hugh G. Hodges; Date: Sun, 7 Dec 1997

My Robert Hodges died in Sumter Co., AL also in 1843. His son, Allen Hodges, died a few months later in 1844. I have always felt my Robert Hodges was the son (probably first) of Robert Hodges and Mary Lide. I find it hard to believe that with a famous Revolutionary War father named Robert and a Revolutionary War soldier husband named Robert, that Mary did not name her first born son Robert! I know he was not listed in father Robert's will but many times the oldest son wasn't, particularly if they didn't know where he was or if he was alive or if he had already received his inheritance. My grandmother's sister was called "Lide" to the extent that no one knew that her real name was Eliza and her tombstone has only Lide Hodges Ratcliff on it.

Robert HODGES with children; Allen, James (said he was b. 1790 NC) and Cely (Sally?) Ann HODGES (HILLSON) lived in Newberry Co.,SC (some say) before moving to Jones Co., GA where James married Tempy RANDLE about 1811.

The HODGES families moved to Autauga Co., AL by 1820's. They moved to Sumter Co., AL where Robert died in about 1843 and Allen soon after in about 1844. James Hodges moved to Arkansas after he married Susanna BOYD in 1844 in AL. Amos HODGES (b. 1810 GA), son of Allen, moved on into Kemper Co. and Lauderdale Co., MS just across the line as did most of the other remaining HODGES in this area. Many descendants of this line live in the area today. Children of Allen HODGES and wife, Elizabeth _____:
1.Amos HODGES 1810 ***my line m. Mary Jane RADFORD
2.Matilda HODGES 1816
3.Karon HODGES 1819
4.Malinda HODGES 1820
5.Celia A. J. HODGES 1823
6.Nancy Ann HODGES 1823
7.Elizabeth HODGES 1826
8.James Allen HODGES 1825
9.John P. HODGES 1829

A son of Amos Hodges, James Lafayette Hodges, named a son Hugh Hodges!

Karon (Caron) HODGES (b.1819 GA), daughter of Allen HODGES, married James Madison ANDERSON. Celia A. J. HODGES (b. 1823 AL), another daughter of Allen HODGES, married William T. ANDERSON, born 1819 GA.

Do you know of an ALLEN and HODGES connection? I saw a deed with both James ALLEN and James HODGES on it in the Greenville Co., SC records.

The only 2 graves of a WARE family in my Lauderdale Co., MS Cemetery Book are Henry Allen WARE (b. 12 Jan 1823, d. 19 May 1912) and Lucinda Cherry WARE ( 28 Nov 1834, d. 22 Feb 1888). They lie in the very next graves to my HODGES relatives in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/1475
