"Fielding took the two children, John Alexander Norwood Gordon
and Louisa back to TN and Gordon's Ferry to his mother, Dolly
(Cross) Gordon, stayed 3 mos, then headed back to Louisiana by
way of St. Louis where he had relatives plus business. There he
died in 1835. I have several documents where John WADDELL went
to court, represented by Lafayette Saunders, trying to keep the
two children to tutor and raise. I do not know if he ever saw
those
grandchildren again, but it is doubtful. Dolly did a
superlative job of raising them along with other orphaned
grandchildren, and they were educated and well prepared for life
as adults."
