Her mother prob. died abt the time she was born, this is based
on on the 1820 and 1830 census records of Dallas Co. AL.
Possibly her mother was a Strickland.
a copy of the A. L. BYAS Bible in which his marriage to Melvina
is recorded, as well as information on her previous marriage to
Mr. Stevens.
The Bible record shows Melvina HIGGINBOTHAM was born 8 Aug 1822
(census report says Alabama) and she died 31 Oct 1906. Permelia
Melvina BYAS (b. 14 Feb 1858) was the only child of Abram L.
BYAS and Melvina. In her previous marriage to Charles STEVENS,
she had one daughter, Mary Ann STEVENS (b. 26 Oct 1847) who
married Samuel H. Thompson on 14 Sept 1865."
