The will of Colonel William Eaton of Granville Co. NC filed 20
Mar 1759 in Raleigh in the days before the revolution mentions a
daughter Sarah who married (1) John Thornton, (2) Charles
Johnston. Will mentions 9 children: 3 sons and 6 daughters.
Charles Rust Eaton, Lt. Col. & rep. to Apr 1776 Convention on
Independence & William & Thomas Eaton who became BGenerals in
the revolution.
Col Eaton was also from Virginia stemming from John Eaton,
immigrant, who settled in York Co. VA in the early days of the
colony.
Col. William Eaton & Edward Jones were the first representatives
of Granville County in the Colonial Legislature of North
Carolina.

George Swartz, a shoemaker, was the storekeeper of Dunmore
Corners for Henry W. Drinker when he was building his turnpike.
Swartz was partly paid in cash and partly in land. He was a
farmer, cobbler, and mail carrier between Moscow and spring
Brook from about 1865 to the time of his death. He was a church
leader, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Moscow
Methodist Church, and rendered invaluable service in raising
money to build their first building.
DRINKER'S BEECH includes the area contained in the townships of
Covington, Madison, Roaring Brook, Elmhurst, Spring Brook and
Clifton, and the Borough of Moscow. It was the first name given
to this combined area.
