"Letters of administration were issued to Deborah Dyer, widow of Wm. Dyer. dec'd, Oct. 9, 1749. [N. K. Rec.] First inventory amounted to upwards of £300. Two others were afterwards presented, amount not known. In the year 1760 Barat Dyer desired the town council to approve of Philip Aylworth as his guardian. [N. K. Rec.]"

Rev. Joseph Echols [838.5.6] (c.1755- 2 April 1814) married Polly Stamps. She was the daughter of John Stamps who mentioned Molly Echols in his 1812-will in Pittsylvania County (will dated 2 Nov. 1812 , recorded 21 Dec. 1812). They had five sons and four daughters. Echols was head of a household of nine whites in Pittsylvania County in 1782. He owned no slaves. Ten were in his family in 1785 and he was then in Halifax County near his brother Obediah.


Rev. Echols, a Methodist preacher, died 2 April 1814 at fifty-eight years of age. He was then living in Jones County, Georgia.
