Notes

CONFLICT: DAR ID Number: 114042, Jacob Buckholts listed in 1790 Cheraw Dist SC census b 1755 in SC and in 1800 Darlington Dist SC Federal Census. Lived on Cat Fish & Cashway Neck (Bishop Gregg).

Abraham BUCKHOLTS (Jr), son of Abraham (Sr) md Elizabeth WOODWARD are the parents of Jacob BUCKHOLTS who married Sarah HODGE. Their first child was born in SC & the rest in Natchez, Mississippi. Source of Children is IGI 1994 Edition-Vers 3.06 copied 25 Sep 1997, from flim #1760931; 5 of them listed as b 1801.

BUCKHOLTS, HODGE, MALONE My ancestor Jacob BUCKHOLTS (1755-1826) was listed in the 1790 Census of the Cheraws District, South Carolina, and the 1800 Census of Darlington County. Family information suggests that Jacob married Sarah HODGE, who at the time was the widow MALONE. This marriage is estimated to have taken place in about 1785. Jacob and his family left Darlington County in about 1803, and he participated in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery. By 1807, Jacob and his family were in Wilkinson County, Mississippi Territory. I would very much appreciate any facts concerning this family while they lived in Darlington County.

AMITE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, WILL BOOK 1, PAGES 65-67" The Last Will & Testament of JACOB BUCKHOLTS, dec'd In the name of God Amen I JACOB BUCKHOLTS of Amite County and State of Mississippi being of sound mind and of disposing memory, do make and declare the following instrument to be my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all wills by me heretofore made. Item 1st my will and desire is that my just debts be discharged as soon after my death as practicable

Item 2nd I will and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife SARAH the section of land whereon I now reside and the following slaves. Dick, Adam, Dock, Lydia & children with the whole of my household & kitchen furniture, stock of horses and plantation utensils with half of my stock of cattle & hogs for & during her life time and my malatto girl by the name of Nancy for ever to be disposed of by her as she may think proper with her increase.

Item 3rd having given to all my children a negro each except my son ABEL, I will and bequeath to him in lieu thereof out of the first proceeds of my estate the sum of six hundred Dollars.

Item 4th the residue of my property I give and bequeath unto my sons WILLIAM H. BUCKHOLTS, ABEL H. BUCKHOLTS, and JOHN G. BUCKHOLTS and my daughters MARY JENKINS, SARAH RICHARDS, and REBECCA MCGEHEE and the heirs of my daughter ELIZABETH MILES to be equally divided between them each share and share alike, that is to say, each of my children a share each and all the children of my deceased daughter ELIZABETH MILES one share.

Item 5th It is my will and desire after my wife's decease, that the whole of the residue of my property bequeathed to my wife be disposed of as provided in the fourth item of this will

Item 6th In consequence of my having in several instances lent my son WILLIAM H. BUCKHOLTS security, I have had to pay a considerable sum of money for him, tho I do not recollect precisely the amount, yet the judgments against my son WM H BUCKHOLTS & myself as his security in the superior court of the County will shew the amount, and also there is a certain note of hand drawn by my son WILLIAM H. BUCKHOLTS and for which I am bound as being his security on the same, the note is in favor of Henry Humble for if I mistake not five hundred Dollars & which unto has been drawing interest for some length of time past, but when it was dated & made payable I cannot now recollect, therefore I leave the settlement of my son WILLIAM H. BUCKHOLTS account with my estate entirely to my executrix and executors named in the 8th and last item of this my Will.

Item 7th I hold a bond of Henry Humble binding himself to make titles for a certain tract of land lying or being situated on Beaver creek in favor of my son WILLIAM H. BUCKHOLTS and by my son WM H BUCKHOLTS transferred to me. I desire if this land should ever be sold that the proceeds of it may be placed to the credit of my son WILLIAM H. BUCKHOLTS on account of monies I have had to pay for him.

Item 8th & lastly.- I do hereby name constitute and appoint my beloved wife SARAH, JOHN RICHARDS, and my son ABEL H. BUCKHOLTS exectrix and executors of this my last will and Testament as witness my hand & seal this twenty seventh day of december in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty four.
