28 Oct 1721. Charles Co. Depositions taken regarding a parcel of
land lying in Charles Co. containing 170 ac. in possession of
Philip Hoskins, Esq., deceased; and upon his death in possession
of Oswald Hopkins, now deceased, brother of Bennett Hopkins, a
minor.
(1) William Thompson, age ca. 66, that John Cockshutt came into
this county with his wife and 2 children and had rights for 2200
ac. Cockshutt died before he put up rights in execution. His
widow later married Nicholas Causoon, reputed to be a French
man, and said widow gave her husband Causoon rights to 1000 ac.
of above mentioned land. The remainder she gave to her 2
daughters, Mary and Jane Corkshutt (also referred to as Ann and
Jeane). Nicholas Causoon died and left his widow and one son
named Ignatius Causoon. Afterwards, his widow married a
surveyor, John (or Robert?) Clark and shortly after died.
Her son took possession of his father's lands. This deponent was
married to Bennett Hoskins mother's sister and has a tract of
land lying contigous. (Liber CL, p. 706).

Mother: Ann (Mary) HARRISON |
Westmoreland Co., Va. Will Book "11", p. 288; James and brother
Hilliar mentioned in will of Grandmother Elizabeth Lewis(widow
of Hillaire Rousseau, later married to Surles Lewis).
Wayne Co. Ky.; Will Book, p. 50, 51; 9 Mar 1824. Will of James
Rousseau names wife Lucy and children Polly, David, Elizabeth,
Ezekial, John, Fanny, James A. and Sally(Sarah?). Also are
mentioned are two sons of daughter Polly, but not by name.
"James, married Lucy Rogers. They had several children, among
them Sally, my mother's mother. James R. died and his widow
Lucy then married Samuel Dogan, and they had several children.
Lucy Dogan finally died at the age of 104 years and was buried
near the mouth of White Oak on Cumberland River in Wayne Co.
Kentucky. She had a brother, Bernard Rogers, who was killed by
Indians at the Massacre of the Blue Licks in Kentucky, I think
it was 1782, and she had three other brothers whose aggregate
weight was over 1100 pounds and who were each about 7 feet
high." I have two 60 page manuscripts about these folks."
Note: p. 3 (1872 ms.) "My mother's parents first removed from
(Culpeper Co.) Virginia in 1795 coming down the Ohio River in a
flatboat in company with a colony of Rousseaus, Rogers,
Crittendens, Fords and Dogans. They landed at Maysville, and
first settled in what is now Mason County, which was then a
wilderness, almost without settlements at all. Thence about
1805 they removed to Pulaski County and settled on Pitman's
Creek about five miles from Somerset."
NB: this "colony" married, re-married, intermarried, for the
next three or four generations. I believe I remember reading
that the Cundiffs were part of this group, and so were Harrisons
and Crains. Members of the colony made trips back and forth to
Virginia during the 1800-1830 period when they seemed to have
lost track of their Virginia relatives and roots.
I show several references to marriages with Cundiffs. One
reference, very confusing, (in the 1892 ms. p. 8) reads: James
R. Crain married his half cousin Catherine Dogan Feb. 6, 1827.
Their children, who survived babyhood, were Mary, John S., Wm L.
Moriah, and Lucy.
Mary died in St. Francisville in 1838. John S. was a soldier in
the Mexican War and afterwards married Jane Hamm(?sp) who was
raised in Pulaski Co., KY. They settled in Saline Co.,
Missouri, where they raised a family of children, some of whom
died just as they reached manhood. In 1889 or 1890 Jane died
and John S. married his cousin Ellen Ellis (nee Crain) who had
become a widow. William L. Crain also settled in Saline Co., MO
and married a Miss Elliott who had three children, two boys and
a girl who are all living in Saline.
Will's wife died some years since and he married his cousin
Nannie Cundiff. James R. Crains daughter Moriah married her
cousin Christopher Columbus Cundiff, and they live in Saline Co.,
MO, where they have raised a family."
