Notes

"Robinson Index", Vol. 1, #5, Aug. 4, 1893. Page 2. "A very serious accident happened to Van and Dan, the two little sons of T.H. Work, formerly of this place, but now of Garrison, Colorado. The boys had been sent to drive off some cattle and on the trip they engaged in chasing Jack rabbits uponpursuit of which they chased one into a cabin, where they found a box of iulminating caps, such as miners use in discharging their blasts. They soon fell in with another boy and not knowning the dangerous character of the caps they concluded to fire off one of the shells, which they did with matches and when the cap was discharged, the particles took effect in Van Work's breast, right shoulder and two fingers of the right hand, and Dan's third and fourth finger had to be amputated. The father and other of the boys are well known here, the mother being a sister of P.M. Kelly. We are glad the affair was no more serious."

Information from Ethel (Work) Malone: Van had built a home-made trailer during a visit to Kansas City, and was hauling it home when he had a heart attack and died.
