Mother: Anne Fowke MASON |
William Smith died in Kentucky about 1802. His will filed in
Mason County, Ky., listed his wife Margaret and three children:
#1.2.1 Robert Smith; #1.2.2 Anne Fouke Smith who married Joseph
Doniphan; #1.2.3 Susannah Smith who married Anderson Doniphan;
and #1.2.4 Mary Smith who married William Markham. This record
is in Will Book B, page 170. I have no further records on
Margaret (Whitely) Smith's family at this time".
"Mary's brother, William Smith, was shown with Simon Hancock, as
involved in the construction of the Sugarland Church Road in
1773 (Source: The Anglican Parishers of Loudoun County,
Virginia, by Margaret Lail Hopkins (1997), found at The Thomas
Balch Library, Leesburg, Va].
In Mason Co., Ky DB J P 43 dated 16 Apr 1806, William Hancock
released his interest as to any possible claims he may have
related to a suit (involving land in Spots. Co., Va.), brought
by Thomas Smith, (by then deceased), against Fielding Lewis. It
refers to how William Smith, son and executor, did not file the
suit as requested in Thomas' will. William died before bringing
or reviving the suit, and his son Robert Smith was made
executor. The document also refers to the land in Spotsylvania
Co., Va which was to be divided among William, Susannah and Mary
Smith; and also refers to "Mary Hancock who was Mary Smith," and
to Deed of gift from Simon Hancock to Samuel Hancock, William
Hancock, Elizabeth Samuel, and Susannah Hancock. [Note: Did
daughter Susannah later marry Robert Smith?]."
