COLLINSWORTH, S.N. Corp A 16 LA
DOD 4/10/64 GRAVE # 1019

from Jim Collinsworth: S. N. Collinsworth who fought at Chicamauga, and was captured at Missionary Ridge ??? I had found him and did my best on-line to connect him with one of the Collinsworth lineages, but had no luck. I do know that he was takent to Rock Island, Ill prison camp where he died and is buried. Not much else is know of him.
************
During the Civil War, over 12,000 prisoners were house on Rock Island (now Arsenal Island) in Rock Island, IL. Of those housed here about 2,000 died from smallpox, pneumonia, and other medical ailments. (died from lack of food, clothing, and medical assistance, yankee prisons were far worse than Andersonville, they had the goods to take care of their prisoners, they just didn't choose to). These men were buried in a separate cemetery located on the eastern end of the island. The staff of the National Cemetery, also located on Arsenal Island, have generiously donated a complete listing of all the Confederate Dead located in the cemetery.
