January 1965, Long Beach, Los Angeles County, CA; m. (1) /?/
LESTER, Bef. 1932; m. (2) MERRILL T GUTELIUS, 25 March 1932,
Long Beach, Los Angeles County, CA; b. 30 September 1878,
Mifflinburg, PA; d. 11 February 1955, Long Beach, Los Angeles
County, CA.
Notes for MABEL D BREWER: As a young woman, Mabel Brewer went to
California and settled in Long Beach. Nothing is known about the
impetus for this move or how she supported herself there. Cousin
Virginia Mixon reports that she lived with Aunt Mabel Brewer 1
1/2 years in Long Beach, CA, after high school. Mabel was not
then married. That would have been about 1930. James A Brewer
stated in June 1998 that "Aunt Mabel lived with Aunt Lola and
Uncle Frank Farrel--they were close. Mabel was an artist; i.e.,
a painter. She also was expert in making artificial flowers--a
crafts person." The Farrels may have lived in CA for a time. It
is possible that they all moved to CA together, then the Farrels
returned to MS about 1931 or 1932.
Oct 1998. Researcher Mary Inglis reports following from
California Death Index: Mabel GUTELIUS b 1 Jan 1890 MS, d 11 Jan
1965 Los Angeles Co., CA. Certificate received 12 Nov 98. Says
she died at Community Hospital of Long Beach of a cerebral
hemorrhage. She was listed as a widow and resided at 233 Newport
Ave, Long Beach. Her father's name given as A.C.Brewer is an
obvious error. I believe her birthdate may also be an error.
Also gives length of stay in LA county and in CA as 30 years.
Believe it may have been longer. The listed informant was Ouida
L Smith of 2625 SW Sylvania Terrace, Portland, OR. This is quite
likely Quida Farrell, daughter of Frank and Lola Farrell.
Marriage certificate dated 25 March 1932 provides the middle
initial "D" for Mabel and also indicates an earlier marriage to
a LESTER which ended in divorce. It lists her trade or
profession as Floral Artist and her residence at the time as 246
W Ocean, Long Beach. The groom's residence was 30 56th Place.
Notes for MERRILL T GUTELIUS: He listed "salesman" as his
occupation and his age as 53 on his marriage license. According
to Jost Gudelius, he sold insurance and oil leases and was quite
successful.
xiii. CLAUDE A BREWER, b. 18 April 1887, Jayess, MS; d. April
1967, Crowley, LA.
xiv. JOHNNIE BREWER, b. 1890, Pike County, MS; d. 1967, McComb,
MS.
