Stone, Michael Jenifer (c.1747-1812) Brother of Thomas Stone and
John Hoskins Stone; grandfather of Frederick Stone. Born near
Port Tobacco, Charles County, Md. Member of Maryland state house
of delegates, 1781-83; U.S. Representative from Maryland
at-large, 1789-91; district judge, 1791-1802. Episcopalian. Died
in Charles County, Md., 1812. Interment at a private or family
graveyard, Charles County, Md. See also: congressional
biography.
STONE, Michael Jenifer, 1747-1812: STONE, Michael Jenifer,
(brother of Thomas Stone and grandfather of Frederick Stone), a
Representative from Maryland; born at “Equality,” near Port
Tobacco, Charles County, Md., in 1747; completed preparatory
studies; member of the State house of delegates 1781-1783;
member of the State ratification convention in 1788; elected to
the First Congress (March 4, 1789-March 3, 1791); appointed
judge of the first judicial district of Maryland in 1791; died
in Charles County, Md., in 1812; interment on his estate,
“Equality,” near Port Tobacco, Charles County, Md.

Michael Jenifer and Thomas were very close as evidenced by
Thomas Stone's Will naming him as guardian of Thomas' son and
giving Michael lifetime rights to live at Haberdeventure.
Michael later ventured into politics, and was eventually elected
to the First United States Congress in 1789. Later he was
appointed Judge of the First Judicial District of Maryland.
