Notes

His widow was Ann GRAVES. She lived until 1782. During the Revolution she furnished supplies to the Continental troops and her name appears among the service claims of Spotsylvania County, VA (Archives Division, Virginia State Library) Her administrator was Rice GRAVES. Possible indication that the older sons did not belong to Ann, but to a first wife.

CONFLICT in wives: One reasearcher believed that Thomas married Ann DAVENPORT while one believed she was Ann CLARK. Thomas was associated with both families.

1704 Quick Rent rolls - a Martin DAVENPORT appears and he appears frequently in Spotsylvania County, VA records. A sum of money is paid Martin DAVENPORT by the estate of Thomas GRAVES in 1784. Also a possibility of two marriages. The first to Sarah DAVENPORT, daughter of William DAVENPORT and Ann Woodruff. The second to Ann Rice CLARK, a widow and daughter of Thomas and Marie Rice.

23 December 1772. Ann GRAVES to her granddaughter Barbara PETTUS, Deed of Gift, negro girl. Wit: Joseph GRAVES (Ancestry- Spotsylvania Co deeds)

1 March 1776. Ann GRAVES of Spotsylvania County to granddaughter Susannah SPENCER of Albemarle County, Deed of Gift, slave. (Ancestry.com-Spotsylvania Co deeds)
