on page 18 Capt. Ephraim Rucker pay of two military men. Ray

Col. Samuel Swan moved to North Carolina, and was Speaker of the
Assembly there, prior to 1715; he married 1st, Sarah, the
daughter of William Drummond who was Governor of N.C. and was
prominent in Bacons Rebellion.
Col. Saml. Swan married 2nd, Elizabeth, widow of Col. John
Sandel, and the dau. of Alexander Lullington.
Note. There was a Samuel Swan living in Nansemond in 1775, and
one, Caufield Swan in Surry Co. in 1800.
[p.449] The Col. Samuel Swan who moved to N. C. had by his
first marriage, nine children:--1, William; 2, Thomas and
others.
By his second wife, Col. Samuel was father of:--
1, Sarah (mar. Frederick Jones);
2, Elizabeth (mar. John B. Ashe of the N. C. Council);
3, Col. Samuel (b. Oct. 31, 1704 and was Speaker of N. C.
Assembly. He married and had three children);
4, Major John Swan."
"He was the compiler of the Records of the Swann Family - see
later. David Bard (Beard), in his will, dated 3 February 1687/8,
left all his lands, tenements etc. to Major Samuel Swann. He
left to Sampson Swann, son of the said Samuel Swann, his
livestock. He left to John Browne his clothing and corn. The
will was dated 3 February 1687/8, and was proved on 29 May 1688.
The witnesses were Robert Randall and Thomas Swann (Surry County
Records, Book 4, p. 43). Was he related to the William Beard
whose will was dated 20 December 1636, and mentions William
Swann to be one of the overseers as was Edward Sherly."
" SAMUEL SWANN MAJOR was born on 11 May 1653 at Surry,
Virginia. He married SARAH DRUMMOND, daughter of WILLIAM
DRUMMOND and SARAH (--?--), on 24 Mar 1673 at Surry,
Virginia. He married ELIZABETH LILLINGTON, daughter of
ALEXANDER LILLINGTON and ELIZABETH COOPER, on 19 May 1698 at
of, Chowan, North Carolina. He died on 14 Sep 1707 at
Perquimans, North Carolina, at age 54.
Children:
1. WILLIAM SWANN was born at Perquimans, North Carolina.
2. SAMPSON SWANN was born at Perquimans, North Carolina.
3. THOMAS SWANN was born at Perquimans, North Carolina. He died
after 9 Aug 1733 at Pasquotank, North Carolina.
4. HENRY SWANN was born at Perquimans, North Carolina.
5. ELIZABETH SWANN was born on 26 Jun 1699 at Perquimans,
North Carolina.
6. SARAH SWANN was born on 29 Dec 1701 at Perquimans, North
Carolina. She married GEORGE POLLOCK, son of THOMAS POLLOCK
GOV and MARTHA CULLEN, on 25 Jul 1725 at Perquimans, North
Carolina.
7. SAMUEL SWANN JR was born on 31 Oct 1704 at Perquimans,
North Carolina. He died in 1771.
8. JOHN SWANN was born on 25 Apr 1707 at Perquimans, North
Carolina.
