Mother: Anne LOUND |
On 1 June 1693, Henry Hatcher's servant deposed concerning a
trip to Henry Hatcher's father-in-law James Batte at Herren's
Creek in Charles City Co. So I thought the matter settled. But
Mr Gardiner finds that a John Hardaway, Jr on 13 April 1693
being aged 15 years, chose as his guardian his brother-in-law
Henry Hatcher of Henrico. Presumably you know all about this and
the Edith Pierce will, etc.
I find that a John Hardaway was living at least as late as 15
October 1679 (granted adm on estate of Ebbett Harris (C C Orders
1677-1679, p 407), and James Batte was married to a Mrs Hardaway
at least by 4 December 1689, (C C Orders 1687-1695, p 267).
Consequently, Dorothy was not the daughter of James Batte and
Mrs Frances Hardaway which would have justified both of the
relationships on record as of 1693. If she was a daughter of
James Batte by a former marriage of his, then and then only was
James Batte brother-in-law to Henry Hatcher in 1693. If she were
a daughter of John and Frances and then only would John
Hardaway, Jr be justified in calling Henry his brother-in-law."
Henry Hatcher of Henrico Co., for 30 lbs. to Henry Farmer, of
Henrico Co., Virginia, 1911 acres, being of patent formerly
granted to Mary Ligon, wife of William Ligon, dec'd, 29 Oct
1699, and by her deserted and since granted to Charles Evans, 26
Apr 1704. Land is inner part of patent on Proctor Creek, next to
Major Chamberlayne. Dated: 3 May 1709
Witnesses: William Midgely, Henry Farmer, Jr., Jane Bass
Signed: Henry Hatcher
Recorded: 1 Oct 1709

Father: ROBERT WINGFIELD of Upton Mother: ELIZABETH CECIL |
"John's father, Sir John, was the first Wingfield to hold the
manor of Tickencote by right. His grandfather, also called John
(d.1626), had held it by courtesy, but his grandmother,
Elizabeth (nee Gresham), was the heiress. The grandfather
(d.1626) was a younger son of Robert Wingfield of Upton,
Northamptonshire, himself a cadet of the Wingfields of
Letheringham, Suffolk."
Wingfield, Sir John, (1594/5-1626), younger brother of Sir
Robert Wingfield III of Upton , signed The Stonely Deed. He was
the senior member of the Tickencote Branch of the Wingfields,
having inherited Tickencote Hall near Burghley House in 1594. He
was a third cousin of Edward-Maria Wingfield and of Marshal Sir
Richard Wingfield and of Sir Thomas Wingfield of Tickencote, and
great grandfather of Thomas Wingfield (born 1664 at St.
Benet’s, London, 1680 as “of York River “ (Mattaponi Branch),
Virginia). US descendants proved now proved by DNA. (2001).
