'Culpepper Minute Men.' Went through the winter at Valley Forge
with Washington. See national n. 110378.
"For data on 'Culpepper Minute Men' see Lossing's Field Book of
the Revolution -- note on page 299 Vol. II
"Record founded upon an old letter a copy of which has been
handed in by Mrs. Nettie Browning Danforth Kinnison, National
Number 110378. Said application examined, approved and accepted
at ? Memorial Hall about June 1919, thereby establishing the
revolutionary record of Charles Browning.
"'Wadefield' was the large estate belonging to Captain John
Dabney Strother, who was father of the bride Mary Wade Strother.
It was then Culpepper, now Rappahannock Co., Va. Charles
Browning as his bride received as wedding gift the large estate
'Greenfield' -- near 'Wadefield.'" (DAR1)

"At the beginning of the Revolution, Culpeper, Orange, and
Fauquier organized a regiment of 'Minute Men' (Howes 'Virginia'
pp 237-238). The Culpeper Corps dressed in forest green hunting
shirts, each man wearing a leather belt around his shoulders
with a tomahawk and scalping knife!" [Mary Wade Strother 1752

1769 DEED: Culpeper Co, VA, DB E-695, 13 Jun 13. Gift Deed of
(marriage) John Strother and wife Mary to son-in-law Charles
Browning and his wife Mary, our daughter, 236 acres on Forks of
Rush River, Bromfield Parish. This became "Greenfield ", the
home of Willis Browning, son of Charles and later fell to John
Armistead Browning, son of Willis.

Patriot Index, Vol. 152, 1919. Charles served as a captain in
Col. Alexander Spotwood's regiment, Virginia Line. He was born
in Culpeper Co, VA; died in Rappahannock Co, VA.
SAR Patriot Index: Capt VA Line, Desc. George L. Browning, ANC
#007065; lists his daus. Anne (Nancy) Browning and Mary M.
Browning and some of the latters descendants.
The children who married into the Yates family lived at the home
estate of their father, Capt. Charles Browning and were married
there. This estate was then in Culpeper Co., and was known as
"Greenfield", the name it still bears, though the county in now
Rappahannock. The estate was owned in the 1930s by John
Armistead Browning, Jr., who is a g-g-grandson of Captain
Charles Browning."
