7992: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, Muhlenberg Co: M. B. CLARK, Muhlenburgh [sic] County, was born December 4, 1819, in Christian County, Ky., and is the third of fourteen children, six boys and eight girls (thirteen lived to be grown) born to James and Susan S. (Stubblefield) Clark, natives of Virginia; the father was a son of Matthew Clark, who married Mary Shelton, a native of Virginia; he moved to Franklin County, Ky., in 1811, where he purchased and improved a farm; was a soldier of the Revolution, and was quartermaster in Shelby's brigade in the war of 1812.


James Clark was a captain in the war of 1812, his wife was a daughter of Beverly and Mary (Shelton) Stubblefield; Beverly Stubblefield was a colonel in the Revolution, and came to Kentucky in 1812, and settled in Todd County near Trenton, where he purchased and improved a farm of 1,300 acres.


M. B. Clark was reared on a farm, received a limited education, and lived with his parents until sixteen years old, when he engaged as salesman in Allensville, Todd County, for eight years; then moved on a farm in South Christian County, and lived four years. In 1854, he moved to where he now resided in Muhlenburgh County, near Penrod Station, on 365 acres of land; now owns 300 acres on Clifty Creek.


Mr. Clark was married March 4, 1841, to Mary J. Watkins, of Todd County, a daughter of Ephraim and Fannie (Bourne) Watkins, natives of Todd County. Mrs. Clark died in 1843, and in August, 1848, Mr. Clark married Quintilla C. Atkins of Montgomery County, Tenn., a daughter of Thomas W. and Elizabeth (Carlile) Atkins, a native of Green County, Ky. To this union were born fourteen

Mr. and Mrs. Clark are members of the Methodist Episcopal and Christian Churches, respectively. Mr. Clark is a member of the I.O.O.F.; was a Granger. He was elected justice of the peace in 1858; re-elected in 1862. he cast his first presidential vote for Henry Clay in 1844; since 1868 he has voted Democratic, except in 1880, when he voted for Weaver.

"Donald MacDonald, Lord of the Isles (so designated as successor by his father in preference to his elder half-brothers (by 1st wife Amie dau of Roderick MacRuari) under the Celtic system called tanistry) and self-styled 9th Earl of Ross in right of his wife; either in support of his claim to the Earldom or as a sovereign ruler in alliance with England or France he invaded the Scottish mainland with an army made up of men of the Isles and Ross but was checked at Harlaw 24 July 1411 in a pyrrhic victory by the Regent of Scotland who despite his "victory" failed to prevent the MacDonald's styling themselves Earls of Ross for at least two generations as well as promulgating charters from Dingwall Castle, the chief place of the territory over which the Earls of Ross were supposed to hold sway, though in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Harlaw the Regent captured the Castle. In the Name of God, Amen. I Jane Walker, relict of Joseph Walker, deceased, late of
Rockbridge County, Virginia, in the due exercise of my understanding to make this my last will
and testament as follows, viz.:


1st I bequeath to my daughter Houston and her heirs forever my servant boy named Sampson. Also to her my two tables and my two bedsteads.
2nd I bequeath to my daughter Jenny Barclay and her heirs my servant boy named William.
3rd I bequeath to my daughter Polly Bernard the sum of five hundred dollars out of my estate
for her use and benefit as an equivalent with the bequest above to her sisters.
4th I bequeath to my daughter Martha Donihoo and her heirs forever my servant woman named Cilia Page, also Scotts family bible and my chest of drawers.
5th I bequeath to my granddaughter Maria Todd Houston my servant girl named Molly daughter of Cilia.
6th I bequeath to my daughter-in-law Peggy Walker the sum of two hundred dollars out of my
estate to aid her in the literary of her children by my deceased son.
7th I bequeath all my beds and clothing to be distributed amongst my four daughters by Peggy
and Martha as they may think reasonable and conformable to verbal instructions given by myself.
8th The remainder of my estate of whatever nature or kind soever it may be not herein disposed of including as part of it five hundred dollars received by Samuel Barclay per his receipt given December 8, 1817 shall be as soon as practicable equally divided between my four daughters Peggy, Jenny, Polly and Martha which I give to them their heirs and executors and assigns forever.


Lastly I do hereby constitute my two sons-in-law Samuel Houston and John Donihoo executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and seal this 18th day of February 1818.

A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Jane Walker deceased was produced in court proved by the oaths of William McNutt and John Laird the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Samuel Houston and John
Donihoo the executors therein named who made oath according to law and together with John
Alexander and George Houston their securities entered into and acknowledged bond in the
penalty of ten thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs in due form. Teste.
