Cyrus Cox enlisted in Thomas Legion of Cherokee Indians and Mountaineers, a NC Confederate unit. He mostly did this, joined a NC unit, to spare his family conflict with the Yankees of E. Tennessee. ID Number: I40886

Family 1 :
  1. +Malinda EVANS

Notes

Belinda Wrote: The only information that I have on "Panther" EVANS is a family legend that the one other individual to this EVANS line to whom I spoke says has a 'family legend' that may or may not be correct and factual information and that was that "Panther" EVANS came by the nickname of "Panther" because he literally had to wrestle a panther outside of his house one day as his wife ran to get the gun and came back and shot the panther. PROP: besides these lands he owned 1000 acres near Farnham Church called 'Quintenoak' which he inherited from his grandfather Col. Samuel Griffin.

PROP: When he died he left both of these tracts to his eldest son, William(4)

PROP: William also purchased the Naylors Hole tract between Doctor's Creek and Rappahannock Creek, but he never lived there."

  • BIRTH: 1793 or 1809, Pennsylvania
  • DEATH: 5 Jan 1885, South Canaan, Wayne Co. Pennsylvania

Father: Michael SWARTZ (SCHWARTZ) "the Immigrant"

Family 2 : Miner CAREY
Family 3 : Jacob SWINGLE

Notes

"She was married 3 times. First to Noah Cobb (abt 1830), then to Miner Cary (abt 1837), then to Jacob Swingle (abt 1862).
Rosanna Swartz, b. 1809 was reported to be the daughter of a Michael Swartz, b. aprrox 1752. Rosanna was in the Providence, Luzerne County area when she married Noah Cobb. Later, she was in Wayne County, PA.

In the 1820 Census for Providence, Luzerne Co roll there are the following Swartz's all together: John, Micheal, Phillip, Baltzer, Jacob, George and Peter. All of these men are listed as heads of household and all of them have lots of kids. Micheal and Phillip are the oldest in age. They are both in the boxes "free white males 45 and upwards". Some of this fits what I have found on ancestry."

Census: 1870 Age 61.
