Barnette Cemetery is near Mathews, Alabama, located on Mathews
Road, Montgomery Co. Road 079, 1.4 miles west of Flowers Road,
Montgomery Co. Road 037. I surveyed this cemetery on Feb. 15,
2000 and found it to be in deplorable condition. Some of the
graves appear to have been pilfered. Those markers whose
inscriptions I could read are presented here.

of head of family: Tucker, Drury: White: 7; Black: 12.
VA land patents no. 26, 1747-48, p.119: Tucker, Drury 1 Oct.
1747 Albermarle Co. 400 a. On the branches of Hardware.
First Generation: Matthew Tucker's ancestors were probably
members of the rather extensive Tucker family of Prince George
County, Virginia, but I have not yet determined his parents'
names. Was he the brother, uncle or cousin of Drury Tucker born
1719, son of John and Catherine Tucker? By 1749 Matthew was
married to his first wife, Lucretia, and was witness to a deed
in Albemarle Co. VA involving Drury Tucker. He seems to have
remained in Albemarle County, in the part which became Amherst
Co. through the Revolution, but eventually moved to Campbell
County, home of his daughter Mary Ann Tucker Irvine, where he
died in 1796. Lucretia died before 1787, when Matthew married
the widow Esther Stamps or Stumpf. Lucretia appears to be the
mother of all his children."
