Subject: Re: [Hodge] Where did Hodge Come from? Scottland?
Whales?
The first Hodge's in this country came over sometimes in the
early 1600's.
There was a John who went to Virginia and apparently started
that branch.
Family legend has it that 3 brothers came to New England
together starting the MA, CT, NY and NH branches.
Thomas and Benjamin Hodges arrived on the Ark and Dove in 1633.
There was a ships captain by the name of John Hodge who often
went back to England and presumably died there, no mention of
family.
Savage refers to 5 captive Hodge's who were sold with no further
record.
The earliest records I have on my lines are court records from
about 1647. So I am researching ships manifests to try and find
a clue but as things go they were not required and if the
ancestor was a servant, they were often not listed. My line is
definetly a Hodge line as verified by Orlando Hodge who traveled
the country doing our family research.
Many of us have changed it to Hodges somewhere along the line.
