The US Library of Congress includes "Ancestors and Descendants of Caleb Soden", compiled by John Voorhis Soden, NY, 1914. Relates origin of surname Soden. Cites "Monograph of the Soden Family", by Frhr. Julius von Soden of Stuttgart which suggests: Sode is Lower Saxon meaning "well" and preceeded by von, is indication of origin/location. John V. Soden suggests, "Sowdan's, Sodon's and Soden's of England and Ireland, are doubtless descendants of those of the name in Germany,., and it is quite probable that the first of the family to settle in England was a soldier in the army of William I, of Normandy, who conquered Harold II at the battle of Hastings, October, 1066". He relates first recorded was Stephen Sowdan in the Deering Roll of Arms, as a knight "who accompanied King Richard I, of England at the siege of Acre, in 1191".

Unfortunately I know very little about the Sodens in my family. I have Edward Hamilton Soden, son of Joseph E Soden (wife Permilia Cline), and Joe was son of Burett/Bruitt Soden. I know that Albert Soden is a cousin somehow but I don't know specifically how. Is that all the information you have for Sodens? It seems we should have a link somewhere as many of my tree members lived in the Hiwatha/Robinson area for a long time and most still do, especially the Johansens. The surnames I have are
