p. 141. The Drayton and Weldon lines descend from Richard Basset
of Drayton (d.1135/46) and his wife, Maud Ridel dau. and heir of
Geoffrey Ridel of Drayton by his wife Geva dau. of Hugh "Lupus"
earl of Chester (d.1101). Richard Basset of Drayton was granted
Great Weldon after 1122. Richard's eldest son, Geoffrey, took
for himself the name 'Ridel' but his successors resumed the use
of 'Basset'.

The Bassets of Sapcote and of Blore descend from the youngest
son of Richard Basset and Maud Ridel. His name was William.
