Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002
Josie, I have been working on the Bowmans, among other things. In addition to the children of Isaac Bowman and each of his marriages (found on the above site http://www.crcwnet.com/~wags/fneher/html/d0001/g0000016.html#I115 1),
I also have acquired The Bowmans A Pioneering Family in Virginia, Kentucky and the Northwest Territory, by John W. Wayland. Presently, I am also trying to determine more information about Isaac's 2nd wife, Mary Jane Chinn, whose sister Susan m. Samuel Kercheval, the historian of the Appalachian Valley, aka the Valley of Virginia, who operated an ordinary in his Winchester residence during the 1811-12 era. He also worked as tax assessor for Frederick Co. VA [ Historical Records of Old Frederick Co. VA].
Thus far, I have found a Samuel Kercheval prob. of Essex Co. VA who m. abt. 1742 in VA, Margaret Harrison b. abt 1722, dau. of Andrew Harrison, Jr. m. Elizabeth Battaile (on your site).
There are two brothers mentioned in the same reference who may be related: Robert C. Kercheval, "brother of Samuel Kercheval, Jr," died on 18 Oct 1874. Ritchie Co., West VA. Samuel Kercheval, Jr. m. Emily Jean Woodrow, dau of Andrew Woodrow, Sr., WP 1814, Hampshire Co. VA by his 2nd wife Mary Harrison.
