The William Asbury family lived on the Broad Run of the Occoquan
in what is now Fauquier County, on a 201-acre tract of land that
had been purchased from James Bland in August of 1761. The land
was part of a 598 acre tract that had been granted to William
Johnson in 1742. A resurvey of the 201 acres by John Moffett
showed the tract to have 301 acres (100 acres surplus). See
Gertrude Gray, Northern Neck Land Grants, 2:102.
On July 27, 1772, William deeded to his daughter Molly Leek
[Lake], for "good will, love and affection," a 76-acre portion
of this land on the Broad Run of the Occuquon (the land on which
Molly and her husband William Lake were then living). See
Fauquier County DB-5:186.
On March 10, 1793, upon William Asberry's death, his six heirs
deeded the remaining 225 acres to Samuel Pearle. See Fauquier
County DB-12:357.
By order of probate on September 23, 1793, Jane's dower land (as
the widow of William Asberry) was allotted to her. The line
began at William Leak's corner and ran to Reuben Triplett's
line. See Fauquier County WB:2-281, 287, 330.
Jane Asbury later moved with her sons and daughters across the
mountains to Harrison County, (West)Virginia, where she died
sometime after 1800.
I know practically nothing of the Ankerum family and would love
to exchange information with you regarding that line.
