James Lee Hickerson of Mansfield AR tells us that a whole bunch
of Hickersons loaded up in a covered wagon and left TN together
headed for Texas. After they got there many caught malaria and
died. They started back for Tennessee but stopped in Waldron AR
and decided to homestead there. Apparently they were in AR by
1876 as noted by the tombstone of their two year old son L.H.
He tells us they had a plantation in TN around Murfressboro with
lots of slaves. Lee told us L.V. was buried at Square Rock but
his tombstone has been destroyed. Lee said his grandfather's
name was Vander Leander Hickerson but we have transposed the
order to match the census and marriage records. Most of the
time it is simply recorded as L.V. as is his wife's tombstone:
"C.J. wife of L.V." Lee also told us Leander is buried in
Waldron at Square Rock Cemetery but his tombstone has been
destroyed. We got an old photo of Leander's family - LV, CJ,
his three sons and dau Maggie probably in their early 20's that
we are in the process of having negatives and prints made.
Also in Waldron, Square Rock Cem relationships unknown:
C.D. Hickerson b. Nov 23, 1842, d. Dec 31 1903.
Robert W. (Hickerson) husband of Rhonda R. Huie b. Apr 18, 1854
d. May 12, 1938 (I did not record his surname at the time as it
started raining. It was the last grave we recorded but I think
I remember it was HICKERSON).
