Nathan's Will: showed he left the following land to his 3 sons
and his "beloved wife, Mary":
"100 acres of the land on which they lived and 100 acres
adjoining their land and David Stuart's land up the creek" and
25 acres "adjoining the plantation whereon I now live on one
side -- the other side adjoining George Hope." After she died
their son Thomas was to have the "100 acres joining David
Stuart's", son Nathan was to have the land "on the south side of
Cane Creek joining land held by Simon Creech, Peter Hegpeth and
John Boolare(d)" and to son Moses he was to get "the plantation
whereon I now live". (this will recorded Apr 5, 1819 Union Co,
SC Union Wills Vol 2 Book B page 70D,1C(1)).

Gen. James Williams was the son of the second William Williams
and Lucy, the dau of Philip Clayton, of Catalpa, who was himself
the grandson of the first Philip Pendleton. He was a lawyer,
member of the VA Assembly, and in Congress, 1817-20, when he
resigned to become Receiver of Public Moneys at St. Louis, where
he died in 1840.
He m. 2) Theodosia, dau of John Hunt, of Lexington, KY, by whom
he had two children, ii. Sallie, and iii. John (Owen, William
Strother of VA, 1898, p. 25).

1807 MAR: Culpeper Co, VA, 30 Jun, George F. Strother and Sarah
Green Williams dau of James Williams who consented.; bm, John
Farish; wit, William Williams; m. 1 Jul 1807 by Rev. William
Mason, Sr.
1810 CEN: Culpeper Co, VA, George F. Strother, 1M 26-45; 1F
16-26; 7 slaves.
1817-1820: Member of U.S. Congress. George French Strother II
and James French Strother represented the Culpeper district in
the U.S. Congress. The former received a letter from John Quincy
Adams regarding the Constitution which may be seen at the
Burgandine House in Culpeper.

(V) James French Strother was a son of George French Strother,
and was a member of the Virginia legislature, and a member of
congress from 1817 to 1820, when he resigned and removed to
Missouri, having been appointed receiver of public monies by
President Monroe.
He married (first) Sarah Williams, daughter of General James
Williams and Eleanor Green (daughter of Moses Green), of
Soldiers' Rest, Orange county, Virginia; and (second) Theodosia,
daughter of John Hunt, of Lexington, Kentucky; she was an aunt
of General John H. Morgan, of the Confederate army.
James French Strother was a member of the general assembly of
Virginia from Rappahannock county for ten years; speaker in
1847; member of Virginia constitutional convention, 1850-51;
member of congress, 1851-53; died in 1860. He married, in 1832,
Elizabeth Roberts, daughter of John Roberts and Lucy Pollard
Roberts, of Culpeper county, Virginia; he was commissioned major
in the revolutionary army March 6, 1779; he was with General
Gates at the surrender of Burgoyne.
