Aka: John Smith of the Pocket. "John Smith, Jr., married January 27, 1747, Elizabeth Hopkins, the daughter of Col. The old dwelling house at "The Pocket" which stood in the bend of me river, has long since disappeared. About 1830 Mr. Arch Haley came into possession of the property and built an imposing residence upon the bluff overlooking the bend."
