Notes

"They are listed in Jessamine Co. KY in 1850. He was deeded land in Clay Co. MO on 24 Dec 1858 & 18 Jan 1859 and on the 1860 Clay Co. MO census. A descendant wrote: "Castillian C. Trabue moved to Missouri when my father was a young boy...in a wagon with a big chest on it....as Missouri was not against having slaves, and he lived and died about 3 miles from Liberty, Missouri." His will dated 14 May 1872, prv 7 Aug 1872 in Clay Co. MO."

Castilian Trabue listed in Information taken from "Genealogical Notes From the Liberty Tribune" Vol. VII: "After the Civil War, those men who had aided the Confederate cause or were suspected of having done so, or were even sympathetic to the South, were not allowed to vote or to register. The editor of the "Liberty Tribune" of Liberty, Missouri, decided to bring to the attention of the public the fact that many of the earliest settlers of the county, those who had helped establish the county and its institutions, could not vote. He asked that each citizen past the age of sixty send in his name, age, and any prominent circumstances connected with his life for publication in the paper. A great many citizens responded and the statements were published in the paper in the late summer and fall of 1870. These statements are of genealogical value because the "old" man gives his age, place of birth, when he first came to Clay county, where he lived prior to coming to Clay County, and usually, whether or not his father or grandfather took part in the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812.

The 156 records, here given, were first compiled and published in book form by Miss Nadine Hodges in 1968 under the title "Old Men of Clay County in 1870". They are repeated here because they were published in the "Liberty Tribune" during the years covered by Volume III of this series."
