girl of that name born to Joseph and Catherine. Joseph's
mother's name had been Margaret and it seems that he wanted a
child named for her, and when the first child died, he named the
next girl Margaret, too.

money. 100 acres on south side of the north branch of the north
fork of the James River; part of 400 acres granted bypatent to
Matthew Whittle of sd. Co.; sold to Biswell Maxwell for who it
was laid off.

In 1785, William received a land grant in Wythe County,Virginia.
He died there in 1795. His will, dated March 12, 1792, proved on
May 13,1795, left everything to his wife, Jane, and, at her
death, to the children. On October 19, 1796, his heirs listed
200 acres of land on Licking River, Harrison County, Virginia,
patented in the name of William Woods. Jane's death is believed
to have occurred about this time. His will mentions nine
children. His wife, Jane, and son, Michael, executors.
Their children were:
Charles (married Sarah Jones),
Elizabeth (married ____ Byrd),
Mary Jane (married James Jones),
David (married Franky ____),
Sarah (married Samuel Williams),
Michael (married Rachel Jarman),
William (married twice, Mary ____and then Millie Wilkerson),
John (married Jane Beattie), and
Claudius (married Isabella Woods). Isabella Woods' grandfather,
Archibold, and Jane Woods' father, Michael, Jr., were brothers."
