The message below was sent earlier and needs to be corrected. I
wrote: "Rippon" was probably the 300 acres left to Notley
Warren's wife, Elizabeth Bayne, in the will of her father,
Walter Bayne. It should have read Notley Warren's mother,
Elizabeth Bayne
Notley Warren was born Dec.16, 1675, the son of Col. Humphrey
Warren, Jr. and his first wife.
I believe that Col. Humphrey Warren's first wife was Elizabeth
Bayne, dau of Walter Bayne, and she was the mother of Notley
Warren. (There can be no truth to Notley Warren being the father
of Capt John Bayne's first wife - a bad rumor)
Col. Humphrey Warren was b. in England before 1655. Elizabeth
Bayne b. roughly the same time.
In his will of 1670, Walter Bayne allowed: "I give unto my
second Daughter Elizabeth all that parcell of land by estimacon
three hundred acres scituate and lying in Patuxent near to Mr.
Thomas Trueman plantacon, one moyety of which was taken up by
myself the other purchased and bought of Thomas Bollar willing
and desireing that the pattent for the said Land may be in her
name." This land was probably "Rippon" which was in the estate
of Elizabeth's son, Notley Warren. (Ralph Bayne, a brother of
Walter Bayne, in 1613 was of Rippon, Yorkshire)
Ellizabeth was called a 'minor' in the 1670 will of her father.
She was not mentioned in the 1700 will of Walter Bayne's widow,
Ellinor, as she probably died before 1682. Since Elizabeth was
not listed as being one of those whom he brought to the colony
from England about 1660 and for whom he received land in 1663,
it is likely that she was the daughter of Mary, the first wife
of Walter Bayne.
Notley Warren died unmarried and childless. Although there was
an inventory of Notley Warren's estate Apr 13, 1700, the estate
was not settled by Walter Bayne II until August, 1712. The
original administrator was Notley Warren's uncle, Cap't John
Bayne, who died before the estate was settled. Walter Bayne II,
son of Cap't John Bayne, took over the administration of the
estate.
Dec. 10, 1713. Then issued patent to Walter Bayne (II) of Prince
George's County for a tract of land called "Rippon" lyeing in
Saint Maries County containing three hundred Acres, and
originally Surveyed and laid out for Thomas Ballerby and John
Bayne late of the said County Deced, and by them assigned unto
Notly Warren whose kinsman and heire at law the said Walter is."
"Rippon" was probably the 300 acres left to Notley Warren's
mother, Elizabeth Bayne, in the will of her father, Walter
Bayne.
Notley Warren was a testator for the 1697 will of John Stone who
had married Eleanor Bayne.
One of the testators for the will of Col. Humphrey Warren, Jr.
was Elizabeth Dutton who was the niece of Notley Warren's wife,
Elizabeth Bayne.
