MINUTES OF THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAGEE'S CREEK BAPTIST
ASSOCIATION HELD WITH BOGUE CHITTO CHURCH, Washington Parish,
La.,
November 12th, 13th and 14th, 1881
The Magees Creek Baptist Association met with the Bogue Chitto
Church, LA,
Nov. the 12th, A.D., 1881.
At the appointed hour the introductory sermon was preached by
Elder W. J.Fortenberry, from 2d chapter Paul to Titus and 14th
verse. After 20 minutes intermission the delegates assembled
in the house. Sang hymn No. 11 Dyer's Psalmist. Prayer by
Elder J. E. Pound.
The Moderator declared the Association ready for business.
Appointed S. J. Warren and C. B. Davis reading clerks.
Bros. W. L. Davis and W. D. Holmes were appointed a committee on
Finance.
Elder D. A. Booth was requested to preach at the stand.
The Moderator called for the letters from the Churches:
Presented by the delegates, read by the clerk. Statistics
recorded. Elected officers for the ensuing year. Elder W. H.
Shilling and J. K. Fortenberry acting tellers.
Elder W. J. Foretnberry was elected Moderator, N. Graves,
Treasurer, and M.J. Pitman, Clerk.
The Moderator declared the Association organized for business.
Rules of Decorum read by the Clerk. Next gave opportunity for
the reception of Churches, when Mt. Nebo, State Line, Beulah,
Sharon, Pleasant Hill, Zion Hill, Terrys Creek, Line Creek and
Spring Creek presented letters and on motion, was received and
the Moderator gave their delegates the right hand of fellowship.
Appointed W. H. Shilling, John Pigott, James Brock, John
Carpenter and W.P. Prescott a committee to arrange preaching.
Received correspondence from West Pearl River Association by the
hands of her messengers, Elders H. Z. Jenkins and D. A. booth.
Received correspondence from Bogue Chitto Association by the
hand of her messenger, Elder E. M. Shilling.
Hand of fellowship extended the messengers by the Moderator.
ARRANGED CORRESPONDENCE.
Elders J. E. Pound, Joshua Stanford and Bro. M. J. Pitman
volunteered to go to West Pearl River Association, S. J. Warren
to write.
Elders C. F. Crawford, W. H. Shilling, W. J. Fortenberry and
Bro. W. D. Holmes volunteered to go to the Bogue Chitto
Association, Wm. H. Shilling to write.
Elders J. E. Pound, W. J. Fortenberry and Bro. C. B. Davis
volunteered to go to Pearl River Association, C. B. Davis to
write.
The Preaching Committee made the following report:
Your Committee on Preaching beg leave to report for Sabbath
services as fllows: Elder H. Z. Jenkins to open the services by
singing and prayer at 11 o'clock; Elder. W. Eady to preach; 25
minutes intermission; Elder C. F. Crawford to preach a sermon on
Missions and take up a Collection.
The following committee was appointed on Abstracts - C. F.
Crawford, W. H.Shilling and C. B. Davis. On motion, the
Moderator was added to said committee.
Sang hymn. Prayer by Elder W. H. Shilling.
Adjourned till Monday 9 o'clock.
