Eva Scott, gddau of Maj Edwin Allen Scott, died 7 Aug 1961, aged
84, the last of her line.
The Shades is still standing and in good condition and is owned
by George V. Berger (1982) who m. Edrye Black of Baton Rouge.
Geo Berger was a Californian who came as a young man to visit
cousin Eva, decided to stay and was allowed to purchase an
interest in the property. He manged the property and at her
death Eva Scott left it to him. He was to Eva Scott a second
cousin once removed on both his mother's side and his father's
side.
During the Civil War Federal troops looted The Shades, taking
everything they could carry.
The Scott family donated the land for Scott Cemetery where
Scotts, McCants, Skipwiths, Robins and a few others are buried.
David McCants married his second wife, Maria Young Livingston,
at the home of Judge Thomas W. Scott (hsld 283).
1850 E. Feliciana Parish, LA - David McCants lived in Hsld 264.
