The William and Matilda Null Buckholts family came to Smith Co
TX in 1850, with the Nulls and several others. They farmed and
ranched there until after the civil war. The labor shortage and
the call of family ties sent them (Buckholtses, Nulls and what
was left of the Hazels) to the Choctaw Nation in 1872. Betsy
Brashears was Choctaw (not full-blood, but as Betsy Buckles, she
wheels and deals with the authorities over land owed the choctaw
and her, in particular) and her father, Zadock Brashears, a
white man but head of a choctaw family, signed the treaty of
dancing rabbit creek. In any case, the ties to the choctaw
family were strong, and after the death of her husband, Seth,
Caroline Hazel and her sons ranched/farmed in Lavaca Co TX until
1872 (James was already gone) and finally in 1872 they joined
the Buckholtses (her brother) and the Nulls (her sister) and
they all went to Boggy Depot, Choctaw Nation. The Buckholtses
remained there more or less, moving slightly west, some of them,
into the Chickasaw Nation eventually. The Hazels left the
Choctaw Nation for the Chickasaw Nation in 1879. The Morans,
who came, too, stayed in the general vicinity of Boggy, I
believe. So did the Nulls".
