Other source gives birth as circa 1685 and marriage as about 1705 in Henrico Co., VA.


Deposition of Michael Thomas, age 52, says...just before his death Childress told him he would met James Thomas at next court and make him a deed for tract he purchased of Stephen Hughes, lying near the Albemarle Courthouse, and believes this was intended to answer the
marriage contract for what he intended to give Elizabeth. 13 Aug 1766 sworn before William Harris.


Estates and Heirs, Dec 1747, Albemarle Co., VA, will of Michael Thomas. Edward Thomas, heir to be called. Albemarle Co., VA Order Book 1744-1748, p. 327. Richmond State Archives has no copy of the will in either the Order Book or Will Book. Their earliest wills are later than 1747, and I also checked the Will Index for Goochland, the parent county, to no avail. The Order Book does state that the Last Will and Testament was presented in Court and proved by the oaths of two of the witnesses (no names given).


Goochland and Buckingham were parent counties, org. 1749 - Cumberland formed from them. Powhatan was former from Cumberland.
