Aka: Hains. "From "History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois: Centenial Record" by John Carroll Power, Springfield, Ill. Edwin A. Wilson & Co., 1876:
HAINES, CHRISTOPHER, was born July 4, 1795, in Russell county, Va. His parents soon moved to Allen county, Ky. He was married in that county, Oct. 12, 1815, to Myrah Gatewood, who was born June 9, 1797, in Alabama, and partly raised in Georgia. They had two children in Allen, and moved to Barren county, where five children were born, thence to Sangamon county, Ill., arriving Oct. 22, 1829, in what is now Cotton Hill township, where they had three children. Of their children -- [bios given]. Christopher Haines died March 29, 1850, and Mrs. Myrah Haines died Nov. 11, 1859, both on the farm where they settled in 1830. [p. 347]
The homestead they established in 1830 was in Cotton Hill Township at the Junction of Horse creek and the South Fork timber, ten miles southeast of Springfield, near New City, Illinois. After their deaths, their son James M. Haines resided there as of 1876."

William LOFLIN

19 May 1796 - 11 Mar 1858

ID Number: I83282

  • RESIDENCE: Columbia Co. GA and Covington Co. MS
  • BIRTH: 19 May 1796, Columbia Co. Georgia
  • DEATH: 11 Mar 1858, Covington Co. Mississippi
  • RESOURCES: See: per Victor Oglesby [S3105]
Father: George LOFLIN

Family 1 : Edith WALKER

Notes

"I have done very little work on William and Edith because so much of theirs was already done. I did research him until he went to Ms.

1 -- William F. Brown vs. Leonard Loften 1819 William M. Loflin security
2 -- Leonard Lofton vs. William in a Loflin 1820 find for the plaintiff 103.89
3 -- Harvey Dennis for M. & J. Whitefield vs. Leonard Loften. Find for plaintiff 318.00
4 --ADM. of Thomas Evans for Seaborn Jones vs. William M. Loftin. Find for plaintiff $34
Inferior Court Records Putnam County Georgia 1819 -- 1831

(I don't have any idea who this Leonard Loftin might be)

In Putnam County in 1823 John H. Walker gave land to William. William at that time was already in Covington County MS. William sold his part of land to James and Fanny Loflin.

The 1830 census of Covington County MS shows one William Loflin living there. I assume that it is this William Loflin.

I have some of Gladys Binney's work on William.
