"6. JOHN WYLIE HODGES (son of David) b. 23 April 1801 in Smith Co. TN - d. Jackson Co., Texas 17 April 1858.
From Tenn., he moved with his father and mother (David and Nancy) to northern Alabama, m. (1) TALITHA ANN MORTON about 1827 in Alabama. Their first 5 children were born in
Alabama. Namely,


David WYLEY 1829, QUIN MORTON 1830, MARY ELIZABETH 1832, JOHN
SUTHERLAND 1834, and SUSANNAH ANDERSON 1836.


JOHN WYLIE HODGES moved from AL to TX about 1838. He settled in Colorado Co near Egypt, TX. On 16, May 1839, J. W. Hodges took title to 640 acres of land in Goliad Co., Texas. Before he left Colorado, Co. he lost his first wife TALITHA on 1 Oct. 1839 and their last child named for her mother, Aug. 18, 1840. He moved his young family to Jackson county to be near his late wife's family. Here he married (2) Susan Lewis Menefee. Susan was a first cousin of TALITHA ANN. In 1847, he moved his family to the Goliad property, in
Jackson Co., TX. John Wylie Hodges and Susan Lewis Menefee had the following children:

A HISTORY OF THE PIONEER FAMILIES OF MISSOURI, William S. Bryan & Robert Rose, 1876: LEAVELL:


Edward Leavell, of Virginia, married Elizabeth Hawkins, and settled in North Carolina. They afterward removed to Garrard Co. KY, where they both died.
Their children were-Benjamin, Joseph, James, John, Edward, Nathan, Mary, Nancy, Elizabeth, Catharine, Sally, and Mildred. Benjamin, Joseph, and John lived in Kentucky.


Nathan died in North Carolina.
James married Rebecca Stinson, who cut the throat of a mad wolf, that had bitten her father, while he held it. Their children were--Margaret, Elizabeth, Jane, Julia A., William H., James M., Benjamin F., and Edward.
Margaret married John Stevens.
Elizabeth married Randolph Boone.
Jane married Mr. Carnifix.
Julia A. married M.B. Snethen.
William H. was married three times.
James M. died single.
Benjamin F. married Sarah Nunnelly, and they had one child, James.
Edward married Rhoda Sallee.
