There were eleven children born in this family and several
descendants still live in North Louisiana (1986). At least
three of Lawson's sons survived the Civil War in the confederate
Army and returned to LA. Two younger sons, Charles William and
Samuel Riley Higginbotham moved to Robertson County, TX.
Northern Louisiana was a relatively unsettled farming frontier
in 1860 with many families having just arrived from states east
of the Mississippi. Scott, a resident and land owner in
Claiborne Parish at the beginning of the war, was a native of
Georgia. The comfortable inclusion of the 12th Louisiana with
all of the Alabama regiments in Scott's Brigade may have
reflected the fact that a great many of these Louisiana
volunteers had extended family living in Alabama.
Lawson & Eliz McCants had 11 children per Andrea Col. Ltr from
Lurline Aspin; David Frances, Cleaton, Jane Caroline, Wm.
Douglas, Thomas Carter, James Nathaniel, Lawson, John Flynn,
Charles Wesley, Caleb, Samuel Riley.
From the marriage records of Caleb's two younger daughters, It
appears that Lawson raised all three of the younger children of
his brother Caleb in St. Helena Parish, LA.
A. B. Higginbotham married E. H. Craig on 12/19/1882
Clara Higginbotham married W. C. Andrews on 2/19/1881.
both in Morehouse Parish, LA.

Thomas and John M. Exrs:
Archibald McGeehee and Caleb Higginbottom (friends).
