"Given name Altezera has been spelled many different ways,
depending on the record.....Altezerah, Altezara, Altesera. It is
also said she went by Sarah or Zarie, the name was repeated
through many generations of both BUFFIN's and ALVIS's. I have
not proved her middle name as "Finch" Again some records show
middle initial is "T." others "F."

The elder Thomas left no will but there was an inventory which
shows definitely that it was his son John who administrated his
estate. He turned in a claim against the estate for "1600 pounds
of tobacco which I loaned to my father in 1742." There is a
Deposition in the Fairfax Courthouse dated Nov. 22, 1757 which
shows John's age to be "40 years or thereabouts" so he was born
about 1717.
Also in Berkeley Ct. records is the following: "Dec. 7, 1774
Thomas Carney and wife Sarah sold 262 acres, a tract adjoining
John A. Washington, (b) Mrs. O'NAN of Indianapolis, Ind. and
Mrs. TUCKER of Carthage, Tern. wrote of having copies of land
grants dated 1754 to John and Thomas Carney on the Potomac River
in Frederick Co. which included Berkeley Co. at that tine.
