Mary Taliaferro married in 1703 to Col. Francis Thornton II
1682-1758, son of Francis Thornton I and Alice Savage. They had
eleven children whose marriages connected the Taliaferros to the
Catletts, Taylors, Battailes, Gregorys and Washingtons.
1st Justice of Caroline Co; Justice of Essex in 1723-26 and
Burgess for Spotsylvania Co. VA. Col. of his Majesty's Militia
for Spotsylvania Co. He settled at Snow Creek, near the present
Fredericksburg in 1703. .
Deed recorded Mar 1703, Essex Co. VA from Francis Thornton of
Stafford conveying to Francis Thornton, Jr., then of Essex Co. a
tract of about 700 acres at Snow Creek.
Francis Thornton of St. Maries Par., Caroline Co., Gent., to his
son, Francis Thornton, Junr. Deed of Gift. 41 a. at the falls of
Rappk. River, pat. by sd. Thornton, Senr., Feby. 25, 1720.
Dated, June 1, 1736. Thos. Meriwether, Nicho. Battaille, John
Thornton. Recd. June 1, 1736.
Thomas Griffin of Leadenhall Street, London, Merchant, appoints
Francis Thornton, the Elder, of Caroline Co., in Rappk. River,
Va., Merchant, and Francis Thornton, the Younger, of Spts. Co.,
Rappk. River, Va., Merchant, his attorneys, etc. Dated, Jany.
13, 1735. Witnesses: T. Dove, Thos. Dove, Jr. Recd. June 1,
1736.
"Will of Francis Thornton of King George County, Virginia, Will
Book 1-A (1721-1751), pp. 48-51. Will dated May 10, 1726,
probated October 7, 1726.

and Queen Co, Gent. to John Taliaferro of St. George's Parish,
Spots. County, Gent. 5 shill. ster. 1260 acs of land which is
the remaining part of an order of Council granted to Francis and
Anthony Thornton 2 May 1718, for 4000 ac (which 1260 ac by a
note from under the hand of sd. Thornton's directed to me 1 May
1721, ordered to be surveyed for sd. Jno. Taliaferro, as by sd.
note will appear) and is included within the bounds of a patent
of 8500 ac. granted to the above sd. James Taylor, 21 July 1722
- lying in St. George's Parish.

My maternal Grandmother's line was SISK and the first record I
find on them is a Timothy, 1737, in Orange Co VA (later
Culpeper). My 4th Great-grandfather, Bartlett Sisk, named his
third son Toliver. I just thought it was an unusual first name
until I found in Barlett's sister's line the name is also used,
so I began to think this might have been the maiden name of
their mother. I subscribed to the Taliaferro Times looking for
clues, mainly an Elizabeth Taliaferro b. 1730-1740. Nothing so
far but recently I came across this deed.
Culpeper County Deed Book-Dated 13 Oct 1780 Timothy SIsk and
wife Elizabeth deed home and 275 acres to their son Bartlett
Sisk. Land lies in forks of Rappahannock & Hazel Rivers being
same tract granted to John Tacquet by Lord Fairfax on 19 Nov
1756. Land lies on side of Hott Mountain, cornered buy Martin
Harden and Col. Francis Thornton, deceased. Deed recorded 21 May
1781.
