son of William Yates, of Shackley, in the parish of Donnington,
England, was baptized October 30, 1673, and came to Virginia in
1699, where he was rector of Christ church parish, Middlesex
county, until ill health caused his return to England in 1703.
His vestry so highly esteemed him that they continued his salary
for some time in hopes of his return. When he did not return,
they elected his brother, Rev. Bartholomew Yates, as minister.
