Holloday, James, pr. Penn. Continental Line. Drew pension in
1833, in Ohio County, Virginia.
From Virginia pension rolls, U. S. War Dept. Pension Rolls,
1835, Vol. 2, p. 180.
Major James William, born June 15th, 1753, died 1823, married
first 1773, Mary Ann Lewis; married second, Suffier(Sophia).
Served in the Revolutionary War as Ensign 1st Con. Reg. of
Virginia, February 16th, 1776, 2nd Lieut. 1st Con. Reg. of
Virginia, August 10th, 1776, 2nd, Lieut. 1st, Pa. Reg. January
1st, 1777. Issue by first wife:
1 Lewis, born 1775, married, had 1st, James, 2nd, Lewis, 3rd,
Polly.
2 William, died at Parkersburg.
3 Mary, born 1780, died 1839, married about 1805, John DeFrees
of Rockridge County, had: 1st, James, born November 6th,1807,
died April 3rd, 1883, married Sophia Potter. 2nd, John W., born
November 4th, 1890, died March 10th, 1882, married Eliza Ann
Lindsay. 3rd, Isabella, born 1810, died 1849, married John
Eskew. 4th, William C., born 1812, died 1855, married Kate
Campbell.
John and Mary Holloday DeFrees lived in Rockridge County until
1812, when they moved to Ohio, Miami County about two miles
south of Piqua. The parents of Mary Holloday DeFrees came out to
Ohio to see her, intending to stay if they liked it.They stayed
one week, then the old gentleman and his wife started back to
Virginia,
