NOTE: Long Bluff is near Society Hill in Marlboro Co., SC, in
the Welsh Neck Section. There are Welsh Neck Church records
that document many Hodges names (including a Welcome). (Sorta
wrong: Long Bluff & Welsh Neck area is in the old Cheraw Dist &
Darlington Co. there was no Marlboro Co. at the time - Society
Hill is still in Darlington Co. Long Bluff was renamed
Greenville for awhile after Gen Greene of the Revolution.
Philemon Hodges b. ca 1760 Cumberland County, NC. Enlisted in
Rev. War 1776 under Capt. Samuel Wise and was at the battle of
Sullivan's Island. He served several short tours and when Capt.
Thomas Hadley was killed by the Tories in 1781, he was made
Capt. of Light Horse to suppress the Tories. He served to the
end of the war under Col. Thomas Armstrong. In 1832 he was
placed on the pension roll of Baldwin County, GA, for two years
of active service as a private and Captain in NC line. He
married Winifred Kittrell, died in Cumberland Co., NC
10/14/1825. Issue: 1. Samuel Kittrell Hodges - (The Rev.
Samuel K. Hodges) of Baldwin Co., GA. m. Elizabeth DeSassure
Smith
Philemon Hodges not in 1820 GA census. On 1840 Muscogee co. GA
Census in Samuel K Hodges home, age 83.
