Josie, You are correct in that the 1st Louisiana Cavalry, CSA was also known as Scott's Louisiana Cavlary Regiment. One of the hardest fighting regiments in the war.

John Simms Scott, Colonel, 1st Louisiana Cavalry. Born and raised in East Feliciana Parish, La. half brother of William W. Douglas, also of East Feliciana Parish. Father-Allen G. Scott. Parents married in Wilkerson Co., MS.10-8-1818. Also had step-father by name of William A. Read, East Feliciana Parish.

Scott served as scout for Army of N. Virginia until sent back to Louisiana to recruit a regiment of cavalry for the Confederate Cause. He based his recruiting at Plaquimine, Iberville Parish, it what became known as Camp Schlatre. Recruited 10 companies in very little time and regiment was sworn into Confederate service in Sept., 1861. Regiment fought outside of Louisiana from 1861 until returned to E. Louisiana and Mississippi in latter part of 1864. Fought in more than 100 engagements before returning to Louisiana. Unit surrendered in 1865 in Alabama.

Scott was a resident of East Feliciana Parish and also owned a plantation in Point Coupee Parish. Exact date of birth not known but should have been around 1825. Died in New Orleans in 1872. Also record that he resided in West Feliciana Parish prior to war. Tommy Cardwell
