The Monroe genealogy is according to the article on the Monroe
Family, pages 231 - 241, William and Mary College Quarterly
Historical Magazine, Volume 13, Series 2 (1933). That source
placed the wrong William Linton as the husband of Susannah, and
also erroneously stated that Susannah Monroe m. in this order:
1) William Linton, 2) Charles Tyler, and 3) Benjamin Grayson;
and that she only had children with Charles Tyler and Benjamin
Grayson.
These errors have been corrected by John P. Alcock in his book,
Five Generations of the Family of Burr Harrison of Virginia,
1650-1899, (Heritage Books, Inc). On page 207 Alcock explains
that this William Linton who m. Susannah (Monroe) Tyler "was
appointed a justice of Stafford County in 1729, and when Prince
William Co. was formed from Stafford in 1731, he was on its
first commission of peace. His service in the office was cut
short by his death in 1733. His will was among the lost records,
but his estate account was left. Its entries, begun in 1733,
included payments for Frances Linton's estate, since William had
been her executor. They went to brother Moses for his own share
plus those of John and Letice (both still underage) and to
George Brett for his wife Constance.
The coincidence that two (2) other William Lintons died in the
region has caused some confusion among persons interested in the
family. However, both the man who died in 1734 in Westmoreland
Co. and the other deceased in 1736 in King George Co. left wills
that demonstrate they were distinct individuals, possibly second
or third cousins of William of Stafford Co." [end of Alcock's

Alcock further explains that Susannah married in this order: 1)
Charles Tyler, 2) William Linton, and 3) Benjamin Grayson; and
that she had children with all three of her husbands.
