Holly Hill is where Richard Harrison bought some land from a Mr.
Holland (a friend and business associate of his.). There is
uncertainty to exactly when the house was built - but well
before 1700. It is one of the oldest homes still occupied.
Richard Harrison passed it on to his son Richard and I forget
how many genrations it stayed in the family for. However, a
descendent of Richard Harrison bought it about 30 years ago and
did a lot of work on it. There is also some limited
archeological excavations going on around it. It is off the road
so I have never seen it. I understand that the owner is very
approachable and will provide tours of it. He is also interested
in genealogy.
From a picture of the house I saw - it looks like a cape cod
with an extension off the back. It is brick (I could not find it
on the internet.). It is located in the very southern part of
Anne Arundel County Maryland - near the Chesapeake Bay and just
North of Herrington Harbor. If you can find some old books on
Maryland houses it should be there. (It is locally famous - we
had to read about it in High School - at that time I didn't know
my relationship to it.).
The Harrison's are believed (Please feel to correct me if you
know something I don't mind at all) to have been puritans who
left Virginia for Maryland for political/religious reasons. A
large group did this in the mid 1600s. The Harrisons were
merchants and active in local politics (And still were - at
least recently.). Later some, probably most, became Quakers.
Some later became Catholics."
