John Rowell to Enoch James. Indenture March 1770 Between John Rowell of the Welch Tract in County Craven, SC Mill wright & Enoch James of the Welch Tract, Planter. Lease 100 acres lying in the Welch Tract in County Craven, SC bounding to East on Pee Dee River, to N. on Daniel Monohous' land & on all other sides vacant land & hath such shape as appears by platt annexed to original grant.
Released, March 8, 1770. Whereas his Excellency James Glen, Esz. Gov. of the Province by deed of Grant bearing date May 20, 1740 granted to John Rowell all that tract of land containing 100 acres, situated in the Welch Tract, Craven County, SC This indenture witnesseth that in consideration of 100 pounds Current Money of the province paid by Enoch James. Witnesses: Thomas James, Pretchet Stone before Alex. Mackintosh, J.P. February 9, 1773. Recorded #822 the 12th day of March 1785 by D. Mazyck.

Enoch James sold the property to John Mikell for 500 pounds Current money of Province August 3, 1770. Witnesses: John Mikell & John Lucas.

SC Baptists by Leah Townsend. The Penna Magazine of History & Biography 1885 (45) states that the Welch left Wales in 1701. They first went to the Welch Tract in Penna, today its ___. Then from there to Catfish & up the Pee Dee River to the present Welch Tract. This I think is Cheraw, Darlington & Florence, SC. Among the Cashua Church members are listed Jacob Rowell, Jeremiah Rowell, Jonathan Rowell & Mary his wife.

George Washington Morgan b. 1 Dec 1819 He was a Captain in the U.S. Army during the War with Mexico, serving in most of the battles from Vera Cruz to Mexico City. Later, during the War Between the States, he was a Major in the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A., Wounded 17 Oct 1862 in battle near Ashland, KY, and survived ten days. He served in Basil W. Duke's regiment, under the command of Gen. John Hunt Morgan.

Abstracted from the original: That J. Rufus M. Morgan of Arkansas, Cherokee Nation for the valuble consideration of four hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Geo. W. Morgan of the County of Monroe in the state of Tennessee. Confirm unto the said Geo W. Morgan his heirs and assigns forever all and every part of my interest in the "Citico Reservation Farm", as one of the children & heirs of Gideon Morgan deceased being the farm on which the said Geo. W. Morgan now resides. To the heirs of the said Gedion Morgan deceased H. Mc Elrath and his wife E.R. Mc Elrath heirs of said Gedion Morgan deceased this 4th day of may 1857.
Witness: Geor W. Mayo & M. E. Callaway.


Reseachers Note: Colonel Gedion Morgan a white man was born in Connecticut. He married Mary or Maryrett Sevier the daughter of Joseph Sevier son of John Sevier the govenor of Tennessee and Miss Elizabeth Lowry Cherokee Daughter of Chief George Lowry.
