Col. George MORGAN

14 Feb 1743 - 1810

ID Number: I101630

  • TITLE: Col.
  • RESIDENCE: Philadelphia, PA
  • BIRTH: 14 Feb 1743, Phildelphia, Pennsylvania
  • DEATH: 1810
  • RESOURCES: See: [S3679]
Father: Evan MORGAN
Mother: Joanna BILES

Family 1 : Mary BAYNTON

Notes

"Col. George Morgan was born in Philadelphia on February 14, 1743, at the residence of his father on the corner of Market and Second Streets. He was the son of Evan Morgan and Joanna Biles, and the grandson of David Morgan, of Wales, who according to a paper written by their descendant, Colonel James B. Morgan, of Pittsburg, emigrated to America about the year 1700."

Ancient inscriptions on an old family Bible prized by the Printers to the University of Cambridge, A.D. 1633, give interesting hints of the early history of the family, among them this, in the handwriting of [Col. Morgan]: "George Morgan, the Son of Evan and Grandson of David Morgan, Gentlemen of Wales whose Ancestors retired to the mountains, rather than be enslaved by William of Normandy called William the Conqueror.""
