"son of Major Lawrence Smith, of Gloucester county, settled in York county, where he was lieutenant-colonel of the militia, justice of the peace, sheriff, and one of the feoffees of Yorktown. In 1720 and several succeeding years he represented York county in the house of burgesses. He married (first) Mildred, daughter of Captain Thomas Chisman, and (second) Mildred, daughter of Robert Reade. He died in 1739, at his house near Yorktown."

"Col. Lawrence((2)) Smith (Lawrence((1))), the second son of Major Lawrence and Mary Smith, was Justice and Sheriff of York Co.; member of House of Burgesses; Colonel. He died 1739. He married twice: first, Mildred Chisman, b. Feb. 19, 1675; daughter of Capt. Thomas Chisman and Elizabeth Reade, who was daughter of Robert Reade and Mary Lily, son of George Reade and Elizabeth Martain; married, second, Mildred Reade, widow Goodwyn. Col. Lawrence((2)) Smith married Mildred Chisman, and had issue:


I. Edmond((3)) Smith (Lawrence((2)), Lawrence((1))). Married Agnes Schlater; d. 1750. Had four children:
I. Mildred((4)) Smith. Married David Jameson, of Yorktown, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.
II. Mary((4)) Smith.
III. Thomas((4)) Smith.
IV. Lawrence((4)) Smith, d. 1788. Married, and had two sons, Philip and George.


Col. Lawrence((2)) Smith married, second, Mildred Reade (widow Goodwyn), and had issue:
I. Margaret((3)) Smith.
II. Catherine((3)) Smith.
III. Robert((3)) Smith (b. 1733; d. 1777), married, first, Mary Calthorpe, and had eight children; married, second, Rachael Kirby, and had one daughter, Mary Smith.
IV. Lawrence((3)) Smith.
V. Lucy((3)) Smith. Married Augustine Moore, of Temple Farm, and died 1797.
