Richard and Joseph Thomas To: [email protected]
It is true that Richard Thomas had a daughter Catharine but she
is not the one that married Ambrose Barbour. Richard Thomas did
not have a daughter named Mary Pendleton Thomas. The two
sisters, Catharine and Mary P., were the daughters of Joseph
Thomas and Sarah Pendleton. Joseph was the brother of Richard.
I have the will of Joseph Thomas and his wife Sarah that makes
this clear. Thought you might like to know this and maybe help
clear up the incorrect information in the literature and on the
internet. Web
"Joseph Thomas was a wealthy and distinguished man, Sheriff of
Spotsylvania in 1736 and later Sheriff and a County Justice of
Orange County, where he died in 1774."
