"I. John Syme((2)), member House of Burgesses, and of the
Convention of 1775; Colonial seat, "Rocky Mills." Married,
first, daughter of Meriwether, and had issue:
I. Sarah Syme((3)), b. Nov. 5, 1769; d. May 15, 1814. Married
(Dec. 1781) Colonel Samuel Jordon Cabell, of the Revolution, b.
Dec. 15, 1756; d. Aug. 4, 1818.
II. Mildred Syme((3)), d. single.
III. John Syme((3)), d. 1793.
IV. Nicholas M. Syme((3)), lived and died at New Castle, Hanover
Co., Va. Married, first, Miss Johnson; second, Miss Johnson, and
had issue:
V. Jane Isabella Syme((3)). Married John Thompson, a wine
merchant of Richmond, Va., no issue; second, John T. Swann.
VI. Anna Maria Syme((3)). Married Jonah Riddiek, of Nansemond
Co., issue: Willis and Lemuel, both d. young.
VII. Elizabeth Syme((3)). Married George Fleming.
"Sarah, daughter of Isaac and Mary (Dalmey) Winston. Married,
first, Col. John Syme, son of Col. John Syme, a travelled
gentleman of rank and fortune, and Mildred, daughter of Nicholas
Meriwether, second in descent from Nicholas of Wales, settled in
Virginia about 1650, and had issue:"
"Sarah Winston (mother of Patrick Henry), married first John
Syme and second John Henry. Thus John Henry then had Syme's
land, also in the Lickinghole Cr. area."
"Colonel John Syme, Member H. of Burgesses, and of the Virginia
Convention of 1775. Col. in the Rev. War."
DAR 102278; John Syme (1729-1785) was half brother to Patrick
Henry. He served in the House of Burgessess and was a member of
the Assembly during the Revolution, he was captured in 1781,
when Tarleton marched upon Charlottesville. He was born and died
in Hanover Co., Va.
